Mini Tooth Implants Vs Regular Tooth Implants

Mini Tooth Implants Vs Regular Tooth Implants

Do you hide your smile due to visible gaps between your teeth on the front? Do your front teeth appear to be damaged or missing? If so, then Tooth Implants could be the only permanent solution to your dental miseries.

Tooth Implants are false dental roots, generally comprised of titanium (a metal that is well tolerated by our body) and are inserted in the jawbone to help support a prosthetic tooth, or bridge.

Implants can be used to restore any number of teeth. They can be used to replace just one tooth or even a complete arch. They can help you regain your smile and allow you to speak, eat, and laugh with more confidence.

There are two types of implants to think about if you’re thinking of replacing your missing teeth. They are called Mini Tooth Implants as well as the Traditional. Each one comes in different sizes and size.

Traditional Implant Devices

Implants have long been used as a sure shot way to substitute missing teeth in the past three decades. Implants of this type are used to replace a damaged or decayed tooth, several teeth, or even a bridge or full denture. It is also used to secure removable dentures in their the proper position. The four most commonly used types of implants that are employed in implant dentistry are: Endosteal, Subperiosteal and Plate.

In this type of implantation , a tiny screw is attached to the jaw bone via a small incision within the gum tissue. After a couple of weeks, once the jawbone is fully healed and implant is fused to bone, a dental crown will be placed over the implant. The result is an attractive, fresh smile that is exactly like natural teeth.

Mini Tooth Implants

Mini Tooth Implants can be used to replace missing teeth. Implants are used to replace small missing teeth and pre-molars.

The head of this titanium screw is shaped like a small ball. The tiny titanium implant’s head is constructed by one O-ring of rubber, which allows it to attach into the socket of the prosthetic tooth or denture.

The Difference Between Regular and Mini Tooth Implants

A mini implant is thinner than regular ones. The diameter of mini Tooth Implants are typically between 1.8mm to 2.9mm as opposed to 4mm to 6mm for conventional ones. Because they are small the MDI can be used in locations that have significant bone loss.

The typical implant consists of three parts that include an titanium material screw as well as the abutment. MDIs however, on the contrary side, are slim body, single-piece titanium devices.

  • The regular screws are usually hollow at the center, whereas the mini implant is one solid piece.
  • The mini implants protrude out of the gums only, unlike traditional implants.

Implant placement is a long and invasive procedure. In the beginning, the titanium screw or false root is inserted directly into the jawbone. After a healing period of several days, the implant connects to bone. Abutments are inserted over the portion of the implant and a crown- the top most part of the restoration, is added. In a matter of months, the entire procedure is completed in a number of stages. Mini implants, however they are secured by drilling a small pilot hole in the jaw bone, requiring no incisions. The procedure is minimally invasive and can be done in less than two hours.

The price of miniature Tooth Implants is significantly lower than regular implants. A mini Tooth Implant can cost up to 60 more than a traditional one.
